Arts Award
Artsmark and Arts Award are complementary programmes...
...which demonstrate commitment to arts education and young people’s achievement in the arts. Artsmark and Arts Award both contribute directly to the Arts Council’s goal for children and young people within their 10 year strategy for the arts, Achieving Great Art For Everyone.
ARTSMARK is the national programme that enables schools, further education colleges and youth justice settings to evaluate, celebrate and strengthen a quality arts offer. ARTS AWARD is a national qualification which recognises children and young people’s personal creative development.
Running Arts Award is now one of the criteria for achieving Artsmark recognition, so schools & settings must either offer the award or have clear plans to do so.
The Arts Council funds Bridge organisations in each region drive participation in both programmes, working closely with Trinity College London, who run Arts Award in association with Arts Council England.
The following case studies may be useful when considering how you link Artsmark and Arts Award:
Latimer Arts College - Specialist Arts College with 1,148 students aged 11-18, serving a very diverse community
Saint George’s School - 11-18 mixed comprehensive with approximately 1,200 students. In 2005 Saint George’s became a Specialist Humanities College
South Wirral High School - Specialist College in the Arts with a second specialism in Maths and Computing with nearly 1,200 students aged 11-18.
Arts Award Discover and Arts Award Explore...
...are two new levels for children aged 7 upwards, currently being piloted by Trinity College London. The new Artsmark application for primary schools encourages engagement with Arts Award Discover and Explore. Arts Council England is aware that the launch of these new levels, planned for 2012, is after the application deadline and so understands that evidencing engagement is not possible. However there is an expectation that schools applying for Artsmark status in round 12, are signed up to the Discover and Explore enews and plan to run the awards, including booking training, once it is fully launched.
