Liz Forgan visits Artsmark Gold school

Our Chair, Dame Liz Forgan, was in Southwark last week for a visit to the Charles Dickens Primary school which has received Gold Artsmark recognition three times.
Accompanied by members of the Artsmark team and the Deputy Head, Liz Forgan sat in on a workshop delivered by The Place, around core themes from Goodnight Mr Tom and then a music lesson delivered by the schools resident musician.
Shining example
Commenting on the day, Liz said, ‘The Charles Dickens School is a shining example of creative teachers using the arts to help even very young children grow in confidence and give them the ability to express themselves eloquently. It was a delight to see children so absorbed, so focused and so genuinely creative.’
Achieving Artsmark Gold three times is quite an achievement for the school. 24 schools in total have achieved Artsmark Gold three times in London. Four have reached the highest level of attaining it four times.
Since the new online application went live on 1 September over 1700 schools have started their applications.
