Grange Park Primary School in Sunderland have shared a lovely resource they developed to “get our families out into the community and see what is out there to experience together at low cost.”
This ‘Culture Map’ was an idea developed, with the support of local funding, by their school’s art subject lead and deputy headteacher. The school worked with artist Kerry Cook, to create some artistic drawings of key points in the local area and use them to depict the place on the map.
Francesca Cowan, Grange Park’s headteacher, said: “The children loved working with a local artist creating something special. Our plan is to share the maps with the community in the hope that they are used to explore the area on their doorstep. We hope our fellow Artsmark settings will be inspired by our map.”
