Artsmark Framework FAQ's
In September 2022, we made some light-touch updates to the Artsmark Framework. Read the FAQs below to find out more about this.
Artsmark Framework FAQ's:
-
What is the Artsmark Framework?
It breaks down the award criteria against the three levels: Silver, Gold and Platinum. You use it when planning, delivering, and evaluating the impact of your arts and cultural provision. Our assessors use the Artsmark Framework to assess your application and award your Artsmark level.
-
Why have we refreshed the criteria?
The current criteria have been in place since September 2015 and we want them to reflect emerging themes. The changes mean the framework is clearer, more streamlined, and reflective of inclusive practice.
-
What’s new?
The refresh provides a broader range of focal points to help evidence your journey. This means some of the eight criteria and category descriptors have changed.
We have created two new diagrams to see how the criteria connect to each other and how they relate to the quality principles and the award levels.

We are awaiting assessment. Do we need to re-submit or submit any additional information?
No. If you’re awaiting assessment you don’t need to resubmit or add anything to your existing submission.
-
We have registered for the first time, which framework should we be using?
You should be using the Revised Artsmark Framework (available here).
-
We have already attended the Development Day training. Do we need to attend a new session before we can send in our Statement of Commitment?
No. If you feel uncertain about any aspect of the revised framework, please contact your local Bridge organisation (details below).
-
We’re re-registering. Can we use the same framework as last time?
No. You will need to use the revised framework from now on.
-
We’re on our Artsmark journey and have already submitted our Statement of Commitment. Do we need to change this now?
No, but use the revised framework for the rest of your journey. It will not affect any of your plans for delivery, but the revisions will simply make the criteria clearer.
-
We’re about to send in our Statement of Impact. We’ve completed our journey before the updated framework was published. Will we be disadvantaged for using the old framework?
No. The assessors are aware that many schools and settings have worked with the original criteria, and this will not effect on levels awarded. Meet our assessors.
-
When do the changes come into effect?
Immediately. We’re confident the existing criteria maps against the refreshed criteria, so we won’t need a transition period.
-
Has the submission process changed?
No. When you are ready, submit via your unique web link. For details on how to submit online, check out our step by step Submission Guidance.
-
Where can I get further advice and support?
From September 2023, our new national delivery partner, Goldsmiths, University of London, will be on hand to support you on your Artsmark journey. During the summer holidays, please email the Artsmark team if you have any queries about your Artsmark journey.
