Day to Create

Day to Create

Day to Create Intro

Day to Create - what a day it was!

We celebrated 20 years of Artsmark by inviting schools and education settings across the country to bring children and young people together through creativity on Wednesday 6 July 2022.

Day to Create was a special Artsmark community day designed to support and celebrate children and young people’s ideas, imagination and creativity through whole-school arts activity.

Day to Create with Little Inventors and Grimm & Co

To help you build your #DaytoCreate, we worked with the creative minds at Little Inventors and Grimm and Co to design a creative resource pack of inventive and imaginative activities to try with the young people you work with, supporting children to express themselves, take ownership with confidence, and discover their creative potential.

Missed out on a Day to Create pack?

You can still use our resources! To ensure as many schools can enjoy the #DaytoCreate activities as possible, all the creative resources included in our Day to Create pack are available online too  - including additional worksheets, templates and bonus materials which you can download for your pupils.

Access all the Day to Create digital resources below, and go to the ‘Need to Know’ section for your questions, answered.

Dare to Invent by Little Inventors

  • We’re all inventors at heart with super inventor senses. We’ll explore problem-solving skills and discover what type of inventors your pupils are.
  • You’ll then head off on an adventure around your school to spot problems or opportunities for invention! What can make school life super fun?!
  • Inspiration can come from anywhere. We’ll help with ways to sketch, doodle, role-play, mind map and mash up ideas to really stretch your imaginations.
  • Finally, put all of that creative thinking together to create the most daring invention ever – and be as bonkers as possible!

Go to artsmark.littleinventors.org or click on the banner below to access the full suite of resources including teacher guidance, worksheets, templates and bonus exhibition materials!

Case of the Missing Memories by Grimm and Co

  • Graham Grimm – founder of Grimm & Co, c.1148 (just before lunchtime) – needs your help.
  • Bits of his story have done a runner. Scarpered. Literally fallen off the page. In his wise old age, he’s struggling to remember core memories. We need your young people to help solve the case!
  • We’ll provide you with evidence to help children imagine all sorts of ways to fill in the missing gaps of Graham’s story, from inventing a magical being, to concocting your own potion.
  • Each piece of evidence will explore a different creative writing form and give young people an opportunity to delve into their imagination using art, craft, drama, and creative play.
  • Not only will you help the founder of Grimm, you may also discover a spot of magic right in your own school…

Go to grimmandco.co.uk/missingmemories or click on the banner below to access the full suite of resources, including Grimm’s story, teacher instructions, the evidence and templates for children to use.

Need to Know

  • How can my school or education setting take part in Day to Create?

We’re inviting schools and education settings to designate Wednesday 6 July as a day to create with your children and young people. By taking part, you’re showing that you champion creative education for every child.

To help you build your day, we’ve worked with Artsmark Partners, Little Inventors and Grimm and Co to design a special Day to Create pack of activities for you and your pupils that reflect what Day to Create is all about – supporting pupil voice, encouraging creative expression and building confidence.

  • I signed up to receive a Day to Create pack and it hasn’t arrived, what shall I do?

If you signed up before 11 March to receive a free Day to Create pack and it hasn’t arrived please first double-check with your school office, and then contact us confirming the correct postal address for us to send a replacement to you. Don’t forget you can also access all the resources online using the links on this page.

  • Can I still receive a Day to Create pack?

Our sign-up form for Day to Create packs closed on 11 March, so if you missed the deadline unfortunately we aren’t able to send you a pack in the post. However, we’ve made sure all the resources are available in digital form too! You can access all the activity materials using the links on this page.

    • How should I use the resources in my Day to Create pack?

We’ve created two Day to Create packs with our collaborators Little Inventors and Grimm & Co, one to suit younger age ranges (Key stages 1-2) and the other for older years (Key stages 3-4). However, activities are designed to be used flexibly to suit the learning needs and preferences of the children you work with, and adaptation and extensionsuggestions have been included for each activity.

    • Are the Day to Create resources online?

Yes! All the activities designed by Little Inventors and Grimm and Co are available online via the links on this page or below – including instructions for educators, templates and worksheets for pupils. You can download and print all the resources available if you wish.

The Case of the Missing Memories by Grimm & Co

    • Can my whole school get involved?

Absolutely! We’d love to see whole-school engagement for Day to Create – it’s a great opportunity to see the collective benefits of creativity in action on your pupils’ wellbeing, confidence, engagement in learning and more! But if this isn’t possible, no problem! Take part in Day to Create with one class, year group or in extra-curricular activities – and don’t forget to share how it went by tagging @Artsmarkaward on social and using hashtags #DaytoCreate.

    • Can I adapt the resources or plan something different for Day to Create?

Absolutely. We hope you find the resources support you with fun, imaginative activities to bring young people together through creativity. But Day to Create is designed to be flexible not prescriptive, and no one knows your young people like you. You might want to pick and choose from the activities, or use them as a launch pad and see where your young people’s imaginations take them! You might even have your own ideas for your Day to Create – fantastic! We can’t wait to see what you get up to. Don’t forget to share on or around 6 July on social media using #DaytoCreate and tagging @Artsmarkaward and showcase your pupils’ work in our Artsmark20 Gallery

    • How can I share our pupils’ Day to Create activity and artwork?

We’re glad you asked! Join in on social media on and around 6 July to share what you’ve got up to as a school by tagging @Artsmarkaward and using hashtags #DaytoCreate and #Artsmark20.

But that’s not all! You can now showcase your pupils’ creative work on our Artsmark20 Gallery on our website. Share the amazing creations of your pupils from Day to Create by submitting photos and videos via our simple form here: www.artsmark.org.uk/showcase Please ensure you have the consent of pupils’ parents or carers before you submit.

    • Does Day to Create have to be on July 6?

We’d love you to get creative for our celebration day on 6 July, however if you have other plans around this time, or can’t commit to a whole day away from usual lessons, don’t worry. The packs are designed to be flexible and adaptable to work for you and your young people, and how your ‘day’ looks, is up to you. You might pick a different day for your activities, or spread your plans across a week. Just remember the majority of content will be shared by schools on 6 July so if you can, join the conversation on the day on social media using #DaytoCreate and tagging @Artsmarkaward
