Your school library matters

Artsmark20 school library campaign

Two children reading a book in a library

Introduction

Do you have a designated library space? Does it need some love?

Is it an inclusive, welcoming space, and how could you use it more creatively?

In this bumper birthday year for Artsmark, we’re celebrating the vital role libraries play in the creative lives of children throughout their education – supporting not only literacy and learning, but imagination, reading for pleasure, creativity and wellbeing.

We’re lining up all sorts of ways you and your young people can show your library some love as part of your Artsmark journey.

Greenaway Greats for Artsmark20

We’ve teamed up with CILIP and Peters Books to create a special Artsmark20-inspired reading scheme, ‘Greenaway Greats’, to offer young people a fantastic reading opportunity featuring outstanding illustration.

Mirroring the annual Kate Greenaway Awards Shadowing Scheme, ’Greenaway Greats’ offers a diverse selection of award-winning illustrated books and accompanying reading resources for each title, supporting young people to:

  • read for pleasure

  • discover stories through illustration

  • discuss and debate with friends

  • develop visual literacy skills

  • get creative and produce their own artwork inspired by the books
