Greenaway Greats for Artsmark20

Greenaway Greats for Artsmark20

Our Greenaway Greats book club!

Our Greenaway Greats reading scheme, in collaboration with CILIP and Peters Books, consists of two Kate Greenaway award-winning illustrated book collections, one aimed at younger pupils and one at older pupils. The scheme is supported by free high-quality reading resources to prompt debate and inspire creativity – as well as opportunities to engage with the illustrators themselves!

How to take part

Any school, specialist or alternative education setting can participate by purchasing the book collections from Peters books with a 26% discount. Discover the titles and download the resources here

Five titles appear on both selections and the activities in the reading resources are thematic rather than by key stage. This means you can select books and adjust activities accordingly to suit the age range, needs and abilities of your group.

Competition time!

We’re inviting you to submit your pupils’ Greenaway Greats artworks to our new online gallery, to be in with the chance to win a prestigious prize – a visit from one of the Greenaway Greats illustrators themselves!

We’ll be looking for the most creative pieces of work inspired by our Greenaway Greats book selection. The closing date for entries is Friday 8 July at 5pm and the winner will be announced on Friday 15 July.

Please read the Terms and Conditions carefully before entering.

Listen to the illustrators

We’re joined by four of the Greenaway Greats illustrators as they talk about the inspiration behind their books, how they like to work and even set a creative challenge for pupils to try!

Listen to Mini Grey, Shaun Tan, William Grill and Emily Gravett with your young people over on our Youtube channel

William Grill discusses Shackleton’s Journey

William talks about his fascination with the true story of Ernest Shackleton’s 1914 expedition to the South Pole and explains how it led to creating a book that would appeal to young people who like him, have dyslexia.

Watch until the end for a creative challenge for young people inspired by his book!

Emily Gravett shares Wolves

Watch Emily introduce her very first book, Wolves, winner of the Kate Greenaway award in 2005. Emily even shares a simple step-by-step tutorial for pupils on how to bind their very own book!
